Zubin Balaporia is a composer/performer based in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India.
What started as a passion many years ago, developed seamlessly into a profession without much thought or consideration.
I started playing the piano at the age of six and proceeded to waste my piano teacher’s time for the next five years…
(why haven’t you practiced…you don’t know your pieces…come out of the bathroom, it’s been twenty minutes…)
For the next few years I was pretty much self taught (not music….i’m talking about soccer and cricket)…until..
I did my first studio session at the age of nineteen in 1985 and couldn’t believe that one got paid to play music and have so much fun.
Happily, not much has changed 25 years later…
In the years gone by I have composed directed and performed music for many interesting projects and fairly well established brands.
Along the way I consider myself blessed to have worked with some fabulous musicians from both India and abroad.
I’ve also had the opportunuty to learn and interact with extremely creative people (most of whom I hold responsible for my considerable loss of hair..)
I’ve also managed to juggle a parallel career as keyboard player of one of India’s better known bands – Indus Creed.
Together we’ve recorded 4 albums, the last of which , titled ‘Evolve’, was recently released by Universal Music Group in April 2012.
We’ve toured the length and breadth of India and also some internationals gigs in the United Kingdom, Russia, the Middle East and the United States of America (more hair loss…)
It’s a great feeling to get up in the morning, slip into a pair of jeans and go to “work”, where work means writing a score for a background for a feature film or composing a jingle or going for a rehearsal or a sound check or a gig…..Life is very interesting and I hope it stays that way.
Cheers & God Bless
